About Us

In 1921, Nagar Kooverjee, an Indian immigrant, began trading at 33 Park Road Wynberg as a boot and shoe maker.

His son, Babu Kooverjee took over the business after his father’s passing in 1941.

Together with his wife Prabha, they ran and established what would become Babu’s Footwear, one of Cape Town’s leading retailers to offer international comfort shoe brands as well as specialised shoe and orthopaedic services.

Their three sons, Rashmi, Rohit & Naresh eventually joined the family business, with additional branches opening in Sea Point and Gardens in Cape Town.

“Mrs Babu” as she is fondly referred to, is still the matriarch of the family business assisting customers at the Wynberg store with all their shoe requirements.

Today, 99 years later, Nagar Kooverjee’s great-grand son Kiran is the fourth generation Kooverjee to be apart of Babu’s Footwear.
